A New Mentor Every Month

I am so excited for 2018! December is the perfect month to set goals, make plans and a vision board for the new Year. Part of that plan always includes a best books list of must read, level up, live your best life books. I am sure that just like me your time is very limited. As a single mom to three girls reading time is a luxury for me and something that I really struggled to find time for. There are so many great books to read, but you have to be intentional and have a plan. Reading just one book a month feels doable, especially when broken down into smaller pieces. Reading for 20 minutes every morning while I sip my coffee is a great way to start the day, realistically I was just using that time to scroll through Facebook anyways!
I am super stoked to learn from each of these “mentors” throughout all of 2018. You are the sum of the people that you spend the most time with. This year I am going to start my day with a different mentor each month. I have included links to the books for you to purchase and follow along as well as links to either their websites, podcasts, You Tube or Ted Talks because if they are going to be a mentor I am going to get every bit of wisdom I can out of the deal 😉
Best Book 1: The 12 Week Year
I just heard about this book and I am super amped about it. There are only so many hours in a day and I want to make the most out of them in every area of my life. I am not a fan of busy, slowing down and enjoying time with my sweet daughters is a priority. I have implemented a few systems for our family that have worked really well for us and made life a little easier. This book is going get me closer to the work/life balance that I vision for my family. There is a great blog from this author that you can find here.
Best Book 2: The 5 Second Rule
Last year I had an hour and a half commute to and from work every day. I would listen to podcasts and You Tube videos and stumbled upon Mel Robbins. Oh man, she is a game changer. You can see her talk for Success magazine here. I am so excited to read this book and improve my life 5 seconds at a time! Honestly I’m a little obsessed with her!
Best Books 3 & 4 You are a Badass and You are a Baddass at Making Money
My facebook thread has been blowing up with Jen Sincero fans. So many people recommended these books that they had to be put on my list for this year. Plus, I am totally up for starting my morning with someone telling me what a badass I am! You can listen to Success Magazine’s podcast interview with Jen Sincero here.
Best Book 5: The Circle Maker
The sweetest woman ever gave me this book one day at church. I read it last year and I am ready for a re-read. It is a great reminder of how focus is powerful. Remembering to pray daily is one of my goals for this year so this book is a great fit for my best year of books! You can learn a little more about Mark Batterson on Vimeo
Best Book #6: The Success Principles
This is probably my absolute favorite book and I have read it multiple times. Everyone I know that has read it loved this book, one year I gave this book as a gift to my siblings, coworkers and friends, something I have never done before! My copy is very loved and is covered in highlighter marks in a variety of colors and underlined throughout with notes in the margins. There is so much information in this book. Here is a You Tube video of Jack Canfield being interviewed by Lewis Howes on The School of Greatness
Best Book 7: #ASKGARYVEE
On my crazy long drives to and from work I came across Gary Vaynerchuk, I am not sure how I had not heard of him before but I am super glad I found him, I have listened to hours upon hours of his podcast and You Tube videos. He is a wealth of knowledge and motivation. For sure check out Gary Vee on iTunes
Best Books 8 and 9: High Performance Habits and The School of Greatness
I first heard of Brendon Burchard on facebook, his memes and quotes got my attention but when he showed up on Lewis Howes school of Greatness podcast I decided that his book needed to be added to my best books of 2018 reading list. Here are the two of them together. After seeing so many of my favorite people on Lewis Howes podcast I thought I should read his book. Here is a man that spends his days speaking with and listening to some of our greatest thinkers. It is only natural to add his book as a “mentor” for this year.
Best Book 10: Essentialism
This book came to my attention while listening to Steve Harvey in the morning on the way to work. If you don’t know, Steve Harvey is a comedian/personality that has a radio show, game show, talk show, is an author and has multiple businesses. He mentioned that this book was the game changer that launched him to the next level. Focusing on the vital things and letting everything else go is essential You can see Greg McKeown on YouTube
Best Book 11: Daring Greatly
Brene Brown has become an Oprah regular. I have heard a few of her talks but what convinced me to add this book for 2018 and Brene as a mentor was two women that I respect immensely both raved about this book. This year I am daring greatly as I quit my job to stay home with my daughters and launch my own business. It’s super scary! I’m excited to see what come and I think this book will be a great tool for me.
Best Book 12: Born to Win
This Guy! I may be saving the best for last here, I fell in love with him and Earl Nightengale on my drives this year. His talks are so good, I am hopeful that the book will be comparable. His sons have compiled the Zig Ziglar podcast!
